16 April, 2014: Global recruitment firm PageGroup has marked a record-breaking charity commitment, with well over HK$1million in total raised to support St Baldrick’s Foundation in the fight against children’s cancer over six years of participating in the annual shave event.

This year’s St Baldrick’s Charity Shave event was held on 15 April at the Hard Rock Café in Lan Kwai Fong and saw 15 PageGroup employees shave their heads – and one shave his beard – in solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment.

Volunteers included team captain of the “PageGroup Bald Dragons” Anthony Thompson, Regional Managing Director, PageGroup Greater China. For Mr Thompson the event was a family affair; his two young sons also volunteering to shave their heads for the second year running.

“PageGroup is very proud of our contribution to local charities, particularly our longstanding association with St Baldrick’s Foundation. We’re committed to playing our part in providing hope to children with cancer and providing our time and money for those in the community who really need it,” said Mr. Thompson.

Mr Thompson says exceeding the HK$1million mark is a demonstration of PageGroup’s commitment to positive change in the local region.

In the weeks leading up to last night’s event the “PageGroup Bald Dragons” received substantial donations from clients, candidates, family, friends and fellow PageGroup employees. The event was well-attended by PageGroup’s Hong Kong team who showed up in solidarity with their colleagues.

“The excellent turnout is testament to our strong team culture in the region. Our people appreciate the opportunity to do their bit for their local community,” said Mr. Thompson.

“We are a global company, but our focus is local. In Greater China, over 80% of our management team was hired, developed and promoted in the region.”

PageGroup has a longstanding commitment to local charities as part of a global initiative to drive corporate responsibility. In addition to St Baldrick’s Foundation, PageGroup are proud supporters of Operation Smile, a charity that raises money to fund surgeries for children with facial deformities. In May, a team of Hong Kong staff members, family and friends will represent the recruitment firm and raise money for Operation Smile at the Great Wall Marathon. Last year 140 participants took part in the race.

“For us, events like this offer the chance for our employees to commit to meaningful causes close to their hearts. Through charity initiatives like St Baldrick’s we are able to grow as a team. We look forward to a long association with local charities in the Greater China region,” said Mr. Thompson.
